Baba Nyonya keep obscure practice alive

KUALA LUMPUR: The Duan Wu Jie festival is not just to commemorate the fight against corruption but also to celebrate the Summer Solstice (June 21), as it occurs around the same time of the year, says Per satuan Peranakan Baba Nyonya Kuala Lumpur and Selangor president Cedric Tan (pic).

He said it was the time of the year the Hokkiens would boil acorus leaves, weeping willow, mugwort and fig leaves, which have medicinal value and drink it as tea to cool their body.
