MIRI: The charred remains of an unidentified person were found inside a burnt car deep in an oil palm estate along Sungai Adong in the outskirts of the city here.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said firemen from the Lopeng station found the charred remains at about 3.30am on Monday (April 22).

He said firemen rushed to the site after receiving an alert about a car that was on fire in the area.

"We have handed over the case to the police," he told reporters here, adding that the deceased's identity cannot be ascertained.

Supt Law said their forensic team is probing how the car caught fire.

Massive wildfires swept through Sg Adong on Friday (April 19) and Saturday (April 20) before firemen managed to douse the flames there.
