Bersatu to lodge police report against Najib's former aide for sharing video of trial on FB

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia will be lodging a police report against a former special officer of Datuk Seri Najib Razak for sharing a video of the latter's SRC International trial on Facebook.

Bersatu legal bureau committee member Saiful Ambar Abdullah Ambar said that the CCTV recording and comments posted by Isham Jalil on his Facebook page were against the law, adding that the act was in contempt of court as the trial was ongoing.

"I believe that the CCTV recording can be given to the parties involved in the trial, including the defence and prosecution teams, with the condition that the recording can only be used during trial, and not to be distributed, copied or uploaded on any medium," he said.

He also noted that the writing which was posted along with the video is in contempt of court.

"I would advise Isham to stop being Najib's lawyer outside court, and let the learned defence counsel picked by the former premier himself handle the case in the court," Saiful Ambar said on his Facebook post on Friday (April 19).

The two-minute plus recording was uploaded on Isham's page under the title “Hari Kelima Perbicaraan Dato’ Seri Najib (the fifth day of Datuk Seri Najib's trial)".

As of time of writing, the video was viewed more than 200,000 times, liked over 4,700 times and shared over 3,400 times.

It was reported that the former premier had said his trial should be broadcast live. However, the request was rejected.

Najib, 66, faces three counts of criminal breach of trust, one charge of abusing his position, and three counts of money laundering over SRC International funds amounting to RM42mil.

The trial will resume on Monday (April 22).
