Dr Lee: Return recalled medication containing Losartan to suppliers

IPOH: Those who still have in their possession any of the seven types of high-blood pressure medication containing Losartan recalled by the Health Ministry must return them to the supplier, says Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye (pic).

He said the ministry had already removed the specified medications off the shelf since early March.

“I would like to urge the public to stop consuming such medications if they still have, and to return it to the supplier in exchange for other approved medications.

“Do not panic if you have consumed the medications, as there are no short-term effects.

“But in the long run there is a potential human carcinogen due to the substance in the medications,” he told reporters after launching the state-level World Kidney Day celebrations at a hotel here.

The ministry, in a statement, said that since March 7, the seven types of medications recalled were Losagen 50, Losagen 100, Losartas 50mg Tablets, Losartas 100mg Tablets, Tozaar Plus LS 50/12.5mg Tablet, Tozaar 50mg Tablet and Tozaar Tablet 100mg.

Dr Lee said all pharmaceutical companies involved have been instructed to recall the seven types of medications.

“However, if suppliers are still found to be selling these medications, stern action will be taken,” he added.
