Cops bust smuggling ring, seize 280k cigarettes

Tobacco companies have been undergoing a major shift as they try to lower their reliance on traditional cigarettes, seeking a future with alternative products as smoking demand wanes and countries tighten regulations.

KLANG: Marine police have busted a syndicate believed to be active in smuggling and selling contraband cigarettes here.

Marine Police Region 1 commander Asst Comm Rosman Ismail said they arrested nine men and seized 280,000 cigarettes following a raid at Jalan Bukit Kemuning at around 3.30pm Thursday (Feb 28).
