Papagomo held over incident at Semenyih nomination

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth exco member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, has been arrested in connection with the alleged assault on Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat confirmed that Papagomo was arrested in Wangsa Maju at about 3pm yesterday.

Sources said that the arrest was made following a police report lodged by Syed Saddiq at the Sungai Way police station on Saturday.

It is believed that he will be brought to the Kajang police district headquarters to have his statement recorded.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin had said that Papagomo and another person would be called in for questioning over the incident with Syed Saddiq following the nomination for the Semenyih by-election.

On Saturday, Syed Saddiq claimed that he was walking to his car with three others at about 11.05am when a group of Barisan Nasional supporters jeered at him.

The Youth and Sports Minister said that Papagomo suddenly cornered him but several policemen nearby managed to control the situation.

He also posted videos of the incident on social media expressing his disappointment with “gangsterism”.

The videos showed what looked like a group of blue-clad individuals crowding around Syed Saddiq while his officers and police personnel intervened.
