Police set up hotlines to combat gangsters extorting developers

PETALING JAYA: The police have set up hotlines nationwide to combat gangsters who are targeting developers and construction sites for protection money.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said that police are taking the issue very seriously as it has become rampant.

"We have set up the hotlines in the hope that the public can help us eradicate such activities. Anyone with any information on extortion should contact us immediately," he said in a statement on Friday (Jan 4).
