Ex-Immigration DG Mustafar Ali to take up new role at NFCC

PUTRAJAYA: Outgoing Immigration department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali (pic) will continue serving the country in his new role at the National Financial Crime Centre (NFCC).

Mustafar, during his farewell speech, said that he had just received his transfer letter on the matter.

“I have just received my transfer letter on Monday (Dec 31), under orders of the Prime Minister.

“I would like to thank everybody in the department for assisting me throughout my two years and five months tenure here,” he said during a press conference after the ceremony.

Mustafar confirmed that he had been appointed as the NFCC’s chief executive.

While the outgoing director was seen shedding tears with his now former colleagues, he noted that his new position would still keep him in the city.

“The temporary office for the NFCC is not that far because it is also in Putrajaya. In fact, I’ve already had my belongings transferred there yesterday (Dec 30),” he said.

While no successor has been appointed, Mustafar said that deputy director-general Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman will lead the department for the time being.

Previously, the government has agreed to set up the NFCC in an effort to tackle money-laundering activities.

It was reported that the centre would be fully operational by the middle of 2019.

Before helming the Immigration department, Mustafar served most of his career as a graft-buster with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

His last position in the MACC was as its deputy chief commissioner (prevention).
