GEORGE TOWN: A 33-year-old man was arrested allegedly for shoplifting die-cast toy cars at a shopping mall.
He was caught red-handed by a security guard during the 12.30pm incident at a departmental store in Queensbay Mall on Saturday (Dec 22).
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said a total of 14 toy cars worth more than RM370 were recovered from the suspect.
“The security guard received a call from the management about a man acting suspiciously at the toy section of the departmental store.
“The security guard observed the man and caught him putting several items in his bag. He then followed the man before making the arrest.
"The workers in the toy section confirmed that the toys in his bag had not been purchased,” he said.
Police believe the suspect, who does not have permanent work, stole the items to purchase drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
