Hassan Karim rejects Johor PKR chief post

PETALING JAYA: Another PKR leader has stepped down from his position in the party to remain as an ordinary member.

Hassan Abdul Karim said he rejected his appointment as Johor PKR chief and will just be an ordinary member and the Pasir Gudang MP.

This came after Nurul Izzah Anwar resigned as vice-president of PKR and relinquished her appointment as the chair of Penang PKR earlier Monday.

“I thank the president for appointing me as the Johor PKR chief but I officially decline the appointment today.

“I will support the Pakatan Harapan government in Parliament and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the PKR president and the next Prime Minister,” he said in a statement Monday (Dec 17).

Hassan said he believed that PKR has to amend its constitution in relation to the election of state chairmen.

He said his appointment as the Johor PKR chairman has been disputed and it is only appropriate that he step down.

He hoped that the new chairman could be elected in a more democratic and transparent manner, in line with the reform principles and struggles of PKR.
