Mat Sabu: Don't make fun of sick BN leaders, pray for them instead

PETALING JAYA: It is not right to make fun of former leaders and accuse them of faking illnesses, says Mohamad Sabu (pic).

The Parti Amanah Negara president said he did not agree with the actions of certain parties who insinuate that former leaders tend to fake illnesses when faced with criminal charges.

Among those who have taken ill with charges looming are former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, ex-federal territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and former Negri Sembilan mentri besar Tan Sri Isa Samad.

Malaysians have been sharing memes that make fun of these leaders' claims of ill-health on social media.

"Such acts do not portray our maturity in politics, and it is certainly not our culture as Malaysians," said Mohamad, who is better known as Mat Sabu.

"We should pray that they (the former leaders) recover from their illnesses instead of making fun of them," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 16).

Mohamad, who is also Defence Minister, also said that Amanah and Pakatan Harapan had always been consistent in combating corruption and graft, and this was part of the reason the coalition won support from the rakyat during the last general election.

"This struggle is resumed after Pakatan formed the government. It can be seen through the prosecutions of former government leaders and their family members in court.

"The government is letting the legal process run its course, as well as letting the judiciary act independently in such cases," he said.
