KOTA KINABALU: A 21-year-old college student broke her legs when she slipped and fell from a balcony while trying to retrieve her towel on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Lee Miao Lynn, who is a medical student, is believed to have climbed out from the 10th floor corridor to retrieve a towel that had dropped off the balcony at about 10.30am.

She landed on a roof on the seventh floor of the building.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said, the victim's friend said she heard a loud thump from the roof and saw her friend lying there before immediately alerting the police.

An initial medical examination found that Lee had broken both her legs.

Any further injuries have yet to be ascertained as more tests, including a CT scan, are being carried out.

"The victim is currently conscious and in stable condition," he said.
