Rosmah's arrest is 'going too far', says daughter

PETALING JAYA: Nooryana Najwa Najib (pic), the daughter of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, says that her mother's arrest by the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is "going too far".

In an Instagram post on Wednesday (Oct 3), she said that she could accept the action taken against her father, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, but the arrest of her mother and the raid on her grandmother Tun Rahah Mohammad Noah's house was excessive.

"I can accept taking action against a man who was in power but putting the women in his life in harm's way is going too far.

"Two weeks ago you raided his mother's house and today you remand (sic) his wife and plan on charging her the same day her husband is due in court," she posted, adding that the proceedings on Thursday (Oct 4) would be a "media circus".

Noryana posted a baby photograph of herself with a young Rosmah along with a heartfelt message to her.

"I will always stand by the woman who gave birth to me, wiped my tears away when I was down, slept with me when I was sick and taught me how to stand on my own two feet. In your words this morning mummy, inshallah, we will persevere.

"I pray that mummy remains calm and composed because knowing her, she's probably worried about everyone at home.

"Mummy, even if you can't hear me, please know that I am fine. I will get out of bed and go to class and Adam will be patiently waiting for you on FaceTime. Please try to eat and get some rest tonight," Nooryana said, adding that she was "too sad to cry and too angry to scream" when she learnt about Rosmah's arrest.

Rosmah was arrested at 3.20pm while giving her statement at the MACC headquarters here.

She will be facing several charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

In a statement, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed her arrest and said that the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 8am Thursday (Oct 4).
