Jimmy Puah causes upset by winning Pulai division chief post in PKR polls

JOHOR BARU: Johor deputy PKR chief Jimmy Puah Wee Tse has won the Pulai division chief post by beating incumbent A. Sivagami Devi by only 33 votes.

Puah, who is also the state International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee chairman, garnered 193 votes while Sivagami received 160 votes during the party election on Sunday (Sept 30).

In a Facebook post, he thanked his team and described it as a sweet victory in Pulai where he would continue to fight for justice.

Meanwhile, there was a surprise in the Gelang Patah division, which saw a five-cornered fight for the post of chief.

Incumbent M. S Murugan, who received 100 votes, lost to S. Yugeswaran, who got 162 votes.

Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasir, who is also in a three-cornered fight for the party Youth Chief post, easily won the Johor Baru division chief contest.

Akmal received 220 votes, defeating Richard Tan Wun Chyau, who only received 121 votes.

It is learnt that results for 21 other divisions are still being counted where more than 38,000 eligible PKR members have cast their votes through the e-voting system.

However, there were no untoward incidents in all of the divisions and voting went on smoothly without any interruption.
