Remand for suspected cat-killers extended, another still at large

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The remand order on two men suspected of killing a cat by placing the animal into a drying machine in a launderette in Gombak has been extended for another three days.

Gombak district police chief, Asst Comm Samsor Maarof said the remand order on both suspects was extended by the Selayang magistrate's court on Sunday (Sept 17).

He said the suspects will be remanded until Thursday (Sept 20).

Last Thursday (Sept 13), police released photographs of the three suspects wanted for abusing and killing the animal under Section 428 of the Penal Code.

The two suspects, aged 26 and 40, were detained last Friday (Sept 21) at two locations in Gombak while the third is still at large.

Closed-circuit TV footage showed two individuals killing a pregnant cat by placing it into the clothes dryer had gone viral, sparking outcry from the public.

A police report was later filed by the Malaysian Animal Association over the matter. – Bernama
