Mah Siew Keong steps down as Gerakan president

SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong has stepped down as the president of Gerakan following the party's poor showing in GE14.

"Three or four months ago, I received many appeals from party members for me to continue as president.

But as the captain, I promised to step down if the party did worse than before.

"I thank all members and today announce my resignation as president," he said after launching the Negri Sembilan Gerakan conference on Sunday (Sept 16).

This was his last function as president.

In GE14, Gerakan lost all 11 Parliamentary and 31 state assembly seats it contested.

Gerakan became an independent party after leaving Barisan Nasional in June.

"We will have a new leader. Many have said that it wasn't my fault, but as president, I must take responsibility," he said. – Bernama
