KUALA LUMPUR: The Petrosains Science Festival is back again as a community event.
It is among the science centre’s key initiatives to inspire the learning of science through a platform that it engaging, educational, impactful and enjoyable, said its chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim.
She said the festival, which was into its fifth year, continued to celebrate science in the community such as in major cities like New York, Edinburgh, Abu Dhabi, Brisbane and Singapore.
“This community event has grown to be the biggest science-based festival in the country aimed at promoting the learning of science to create a more science-literate society in the country.
“It provides a unified platform in the community where both the public and private sectors, key industry players and academia can work together to inspire and instil an understanding and appreciation for science in our society,” she said at the launch of the three-day Petrosains Science Festival 2018 event at KLCC Park.
Also present was Petronas chairman Datuk Ahmad Nizam Salleh.
Tengku Nasariah said the festival was also an extension of the centre’s commitment to nurture meaningful learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM.
“The reason why it is so important for us to do that is because the role of science and STEM in our lives cannot be overstated.
“It encompasses everything that we do, it improves our lives and shapes our understanding of the world around us,” Tengku Nasariah said.
She added that Petrosains could help to engage the public to learn about global changes and challenges and make the learning accessible, engaging, interesting and memorable.
“Educational programmes, exhibits and festival such as this event have the potential to help people see and understand possibilities of the future, the science of tomorrow and how to embrace the imminent Fourth Industrial Revolution,” she added.
The festival is being held at Galleria Petrosains, Petrosains, The Discovery Centre (9.30am-6.30pm); and Concourse Suria KLCC and Esplanade KLCC Park (10am to 10pm).
