MACC meets with Daim to discuss questionable land sales

KUALA LUMPUR: A brief meeting was held between Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission investigators and Tun Daim Zainuddin (pic) over the questionable sale of 91 plots of land in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

MACC officers arrived at Menara Ilham here at around 10.40am on Wednesday (Sept 12) and left about half an hour later.

It is unclear how many officers were there, but three cars were seen entering the building.

According to Bernama, MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull was there with his officers to meet Daim.

Daim, who is the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) chairman, had said that he would meet the MACC over the sale of the land and whether these should be seized as there were some land recipients who were willing to return it.

He also said the government had completed its investigations into the land sales and had submitted their findings to the MACC.

On June 4, the MACC seized documents related to 64 parcels of land valued at RM4.28bil without open tender between 2013 and 2018 by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

The deals, involving 170ha of land, were allegedly made through direct negotiations.

Sixteen out of the 64 plots, involving 37.24ha of land, were sold to a single property developer for RM785mil.
