Mechanic fined RM5,000 for offensive WhatsApp message to ex-girlfriend

KUALA LUMPUR: A mechanic was fined RM5,000 in default of six month’s jail by an Ampang magistrate’s court here for insulting the modesty of his ex-girlfriend by editing her photo.

Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali passed the sentence on Muhammad Omar Aliff Rosli, 32, after he pleaded guilty to the charge here Friday.

The accused was charged with insulting the modesty of the 36-year-old victim by editing her photo and using words that described her as a slut (perempuan sundal).

The photo was then sent to the victim via WhatsApp.

The charge, under Section 509 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail or fine or both upon conviction.

DPP Norhashimah Hashim prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
