65 left homeless in Tatau longhouse fire


MIRI: A longhouse settlement located in the Tatau district in northern Sarawak was razed in a fire on Sunday (Aug 26) morning.

The 4am incident saw about 65 people left homeless when the fire destroyed Rumah Sengalang.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that all the residents managed to escape the blaze.

The victims are being given temporary shelter by neighbouring villagers until welfare help arrives.

The cause of the fire is being probed.
