Muhyiddin back to work next week

PETALING JAYA: Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) will be back to work next week but will still require six months of chemotheraphy treatment.

His press secretary Hafiz Abdul Halim said Muhyiddin will take his oath as Pagoh MP at the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 14) and that he will also be attending a few meetings.

"On the advice of doctors, he will also undergo follow-up treatment, including chemotherapy for six months to ensure there is no recurrence of his illness," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Hafiz added that Muhyiddin's official duties will be limited as he undergoes the follow-up treatment to ensure he recovers fully.

On Friday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad told reporters that the Muhyiddin would need time to recover.

He said that he had visited Muhyiddin and found him in good spirits before he was discharged from the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Tuesday (Aug 7).

Muhyiddin had undergone an operation to remove a pancreatic tumour on July 12.

"I went to see him, he's well. But you know, with this kind of disease, the treatment period is very long because he may have to do follow-up treatment. He might be on chemotherapy," said Dr Mahathir during a press conference after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Pribumi) supreme council meeting held at its headquarters here Friday night.
