PETALING JAYA: It might not come as a big surprise, but Wednesday's (June 27) top search on Google Malaysia was the word "Bijan".

This bucked the trend of the past few days, where the top searches were all related to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

There were more than 100,000 search entries for "Bijan" and other related queries including "Bijan Bag", "Bijan Handbag" and "House of Bijan".

The second most-searched entry on Wednesday was "Mexico vs Sweden" with more than 100,000 search entries followed by "Switzerland vs Costa Rica" with 20,000 search entries and "Maradona" with 10,000 search entries.

The past few days have seen searches involving World Cup matches at the top of the trend.

"Bijan" was also one of the top trending terms on Twitter on Wednesday.

The interest in the word piqued after police identified a "Bijan special order bag" as one of the luxury bags seized during recent raids at residences linked to ex-premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The raids were conducted in relation to the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) investigations.

The House of Bijan is known as the most expensive store in the world.

Headquartered in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, this American brand uses only the finest materials from crocodile skin, kangaroo hide to flawless gemstones for its ultra high-end bags.
