IGP has not been sacked despite talk of being replaced in big police clean-up

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite talk of a major shake-up in Bukit Aman, Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun (pic) still remains as the country's top cop.

The Inspector-General of Police is on duty as per usual, claimed sources.

"He is still the IGP and he is working as usual.

"He definitely has not resigned or been replaced," a source told The Star on Monday (June 11).

The source said the IGP is carrying on with his official duties in leading Bukit Aman and the police force.

An earlier story from the Singapore Straits Times, citing sources, had claimed there will be a "8.5 Richter (scale earthquake) shake-up" in the police force in July when "several chiefs" in the police force are expected to be removed, including the IGP.

This is because the new Pakatan Harapan government wants to "cleanse" the organisation.

The report added that three departments, believed to be riddled with corruption, will be closed down as they have been "protecting" the criminals they were supposed to catch.

The three departments expected to be scrapped are the Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG), Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC) and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING).
