Man gets set for sahur meal, stumbles across 40kg python in his kitchen

SANDAKAN: A man preparing for sahur was shocked to find a three-metre long python in the kitchen of his house in Taman Evergreen off Mile 6, Jalan Labuk here on Thursday (June 7).

The 45-year-old man heard a noise in the kitchen and upon checking, stumbled upon the snake behind the cupboard before immediately contacting the authorities for assistance at 4.55am.

Sandakan Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Captain Ahmad Roslan Mohd Kamel said the APM was alerted by the Malaysia Emergency Response Services (Mers) on the incident and dispatched six personnel, led by Corporal Mansyur Kuba at 5.05am.

The APM team arrived at the location at 5.09am and succeeded in catching the almost 40kg python in less than 10 minutes, Ahmad Roslan said.

He added that the snake was put into a sack and taken away to be released back into its natural habitat.

The three occupants who were at home during the incident were also unharmed, said Ahmad Roslan.

This is the second such case which the APM had responded to within seven days.

On June 1, they were called to catch a cobra in the kitchen of a Chinese temple at Jalan Cecily here.
