Teenager found dead with slash wounds in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A teenager is believed to have slashed himself to death after his parents forbade him from following Islamic religious activities in Sandakan.

The 19-year-old was found dead in a pool of blood after midnight Thursday (June 7).

He was also found holding a saw, which was believed to have been used in the incident.

Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin said the teenager has been depressed over the past few days following the decision of his parents to forbid him from attending the activities.

He said prior to that, the teenager was supposed to be sent to Kuala Lumpur for a job but he refused to go and returned home after reaching Sandakan airport.

"After coming home from the airport, the boy did not show any reaction but refused to speak to anyone," ACP Azhar said.

He was found dead not long afterwards with multiple slash wounds on his neck and body.

"His father found him lying lifeless in their kitchen at about 12.30am," he said.

The boy's body has been taken to the hospital for a post mortem, and the case is being classified as a sudden death.
