ALOR SETAR: An election candidate here has claimed that he was threatened by someone who wanted cash aid from him.
“He said his car had broken down and asked for RM150 to be transferred urgently to him to help repair his car and he gave me his bank account number,” said Teh Swee Leong, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Kota Darul Aman state seat.
“I told him I was a candidate and could not provide that sort of help,” he added.
Teh told reporters yesterday that the man who contacted him via WhatsApp claimed to be a fellow DAP member.
The man then called Teh several times.
However, Teh said he did not respond as he was on the campaign trail in Taman Berjaya.
Yesterday morning, Teh received a warning message in Mandarin.
“Swee Leong, you are in my area. How do you think you’re going out to attract voters? I will make sure you do not win on polling day because you did not help me. I will make this matter viral on social media,” it read.
Teh then lodged a police report at the Kota Setar station.
On Tuesday (May 1), a 3m PKR flag in Pekan Simpang Kuala here, near the Kedah DAP office, was burnt down in the wee hours of the morning.
A party member found the charred remnants in the morning.
No other flags in the area were damaged.
Kedah DAP chief Tan Kok Yew lodged a report on Wednesday (May 2).
