REMBAU: Khairy Jamaluddin confirmed that he has served a writ of summons on PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli for allegedly defaming him and Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Barisan Nasional Youth chairman said it was aimed at proving to the people that he and Mohamad, who is also Negri Sembilan Barisan and Umno chairman, were innocent.

"I dared to serve the writ of summons on Rafizi because I know I'm right and that Mohamad and I are innocent. We will take the matter to court," Khairy said after joining the people in a dodol-making programme in Kampung Stesyen here Tuesday (May 1).

Rafizi had allegedly accused Khairy of conspiring with Mohamad to influence the Election Commission's (EC) decision in preventing PKR candidate for Rantau state seat Dr S. Streram from entering the nomination centre to file his papers for GE14 on April 28.

Khairy, who is defending his Rembau parliamentary seat, said he believed that the issue was purposely played by the Opposition merely to fish for votes.

Returning officer Amino Agos Suyub duly declared Mohamad as the winner of the Rantau state seat in the Rembau parliamentary constituency, which he has held since 2004.

This follows after his sole challenger Dr Streram was barred from entering the nomination centre for not bringing his candidate pass as required by the EC. - Bernama
