GE14: DAP fields former journalist as candidate for Berapit state seat

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Penang DAP has field a new face and former journalist to contest in the Berapit state seat for GE14.

Announcing this at a press conference here Thursday, state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said Heng Lee Lee, 39, is replacing incumbent Ong Kok Fooi.

Ong had earlier expressed her wish of not defending the seat after serving for two terms there.

Heng, who was born and raised in Bukit Mertajam, said she is contesting for the betterment of Penang and is able to contribute from her experience as a journalist.

Heng was with Malaysian Chinese daily Kwong Wah Yit Poh for seven years and was former special officer to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Chow also announced that incumbent Steven Sim Chee Keong will contest the Bukit Mertajam parliamentary seat while incumbent Chong Eng is retained for the Padang Lalang state seat.
