ALOR SETAR: Almost all community college graduates have managed to secure jobs, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.

“The marketability rate for community colleges is at 96.7%, which means almost all the students are able to get jobs.

“The demand for community colleges is high. This week alone, we are opening more community colleges in Kangar, Lenggong, Rantau Panjang and Setiu,” he told reporters after launching Jerlun Community College here yesterday.

A total of 48 certificate courses is offered by community colleges, with 150,000 graduates as of last year.

The courses range from culinary to fashion, automotive and virtual reality.

Three IRB staff hope to walk into record book

IPOH: In a departure from the norm, three Inland Revenue Board (IRB) staff walked 1,600km to distribute 10,000 taxation pamphlets to the public.

IRB chief executive officer Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said the hosting of the event through the longest distance programme was aimed at getting close to the public, particularly taxpayers, in the initiative to promote tax awareness.

He said the programme, which was expected to end on May 15, was aimed at setting a record in the Malaysia Book of Records.

“The staff will distribute the pamphlets and carry out corporate social responsibility initiatives in Kedah, Terengganu, Johor, Melaka and Perak,” he said during the flagging-off ceremony at the Ipoh IRB branch here on Monday. — Bernama
