GE14: Barisan Youth manifesto covers eight pledges

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional has launched a GE14 manifesto specially for Malaysian youths with eight main pledges that addresses all the needs of the group.  

The manifesto was launched by Barisan Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin at the Putra World Trade Centre on Tuesday.  

It touches on employment opportunities and skills trainings; increasing income and improving skills; economic empower for youths in rural areas; aiding youth entrepreneurs; easing the burdens of young families; improving the quality of life; ensuring opportunities for the whole youth segment and ensuring that youths continue to play an important role for the National Transformation 2050 (TN50).  

This is the first time Barisan has drawn up a manifesto just for youths.  

In his speech, Khairy said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has given him the full mandate as the Barisan Youth chief to present the manifesto.  

"Every five years, we look back at our achievements, and now, it is time that we make better plans for the next five years.  

"Therefore, those who said that we only make promises when its nearing the general election are just too shallow.  

"I know you want a better life and tonight, I want to give you an assurance that you will lead a better life under Barisan in the next five years," he said in his speech.  

Khairy also announced that he has gotten the approval of Najib to assist young couples who want to start their families.  

"I've personally fought for this and got the approval from Datuk Seri Najib. We will refine the mechanism soon, whether its through direct assistance or in other forms," he said.  

More than 3,000 youths from 78 groups and non-governmental organisations were present.  

Khairy urged the youths to lay their trusts in him so that he is able to personally fight and make the eight guarantees a reality.

"I need your support to make this happen. I need your mandate to make this happen.

"I cannot do this alone, I will only lead this but I will need my team," he added.

To this, those present in the hall stood up and chanted "BN Hebat! Orang muda hebat! Jom, BN!" (BN is great, youths are great, Go, BN!)
