PETALING JAYA: Do politically-themed t-shirts seem too passé for you?

Don't worry, you can now wear your heart on your sleeve - or more specifically, on your head - to show support for your party of choice in the coming general election (GE14).

Smart local entrepreneurs are capitalising on election fever ahead of the polls and peddling fashionable accessories that do double duty as political souvenirs.

An e-shop, located at @by.taiyuddinbakar on Instagram, has been offering knit kopiah (skullcaps) for different political parties since Feb 21.

This is achieved through the use of different colours in their handmade wares.

For example, the #SahabatDAP kopiah is mostly white, with two fine stripes of red and blue.

At RM45 a piece, a simple green and white design is reserved for #SahabatPAS, while #SahabatAmanah is orange and white.

Actor Taiyuddin Bakar started the business over a year ago, and initially catered for football fans with kopiah designed to reflect the different states in Malaysia.

“As for GE14, I am someone who grew up in a very politically-inclined family. Political ideologies can differentiate people's way of thinking, but I choose to see the similarities,” said the 35-year-old.

“It’s to remind myself and to remind fellow Muslims out there, that whatever it is, we are the same. We bow to the same God, which is Allah.

"We may have our small quarrels here and there. But my dream is to see all the people, wearing the different kopiahs, praying together in one masjid (mosque). Or maybe even spotting them in one saf (row in place of worship),” he added.

In a March 26 post, Chenta Watie Scarf - Aura Keanggunan Wanita (Aura of Women's Elegance) promoted a "Limited Edition Election Series" on their Facebook page.

The headscarves, which come in choices such as BN-01 (Barisan Nasional), PH-01 (Pakatan Harapan) and many more, sport party colours and logos in their streamlined designs.

Sold for RM59 a piece, the cooling satin squares are touted as a solution to sartorial “headaches” while campaigning for the party or while casting one’s vote at the ballot boxes. Pre-orders can be made till April 14.

In seeming anticipation of greater demand in the days to come, special prices are offered for bulk purchases.
