Man arrested for stealing rubber plating from train tracks

JOHOR BARU: A 32-year-old man has been detained for stealing rubber plating from train tracks near Taman Impian Emas in Skudai here.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Taib Ahmad said the man was detained by KTMB auxiliary police personnel at around 6.40pm on Feb 22.

“The suspect was carrying a gunny sack where he stored the stolen items and modified knife,” he said in a statement on Monday (March 12).

ACP Mohd Taib said police also discovered a spot on the tracks where the rubber plats were missing and added this could affect the stability of the railway.

“The case is being investigated under Section 64 (1)(b) of the Railways Act 1991 and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958,” he said adding the suspect would be remanded for further action.
