DAP’s plan to have more women in the ranks on hold

PUTRAJAYA: DAP’s plan to have more female members playing a leadership role in the party will have to be put on hold for now.

This is because amendment made to the constitution could not be approved by the Registrar of Societies following “issues” involving the election of DAP’s central executive committee members.

Its national organising secretary Anthony Loke said amendments to have 30% women leaders as well as to increase CEC members from 20 to 30 were passed during the party’s national conference in 2014.

However, RoS did not approve the changes because it did not recognise the CEC that was elected in 2013.

Loke said his meeting with the Registrar yesterday was to clear the air on this as well as several other matters.

“We were advised to table the amendments again to members at our national conference or during party congress.

“When this is done, we can re-submit to RoS and once approved, we can have the po­­licy implemented,” he said when met after the meeting.

He added that since DAP had already held its special congress in November last year, its national conference was only due 18 months later, which is next year.

RoS cleared DAP’s CEC re-election after finding that the process had complied with requirements.

The DAP held its congress on Nov 12 last year to elect a new CEC, after its 2013 list was rejected by the RoS.

Another matter which DAP had to re-do was the application to register its 206 new branches, with membership of around 10,000 people.
