Selangor police chief: Spat among Gang 08 members connected to Serdang shooting

SHAH ALAM: The murder of a 39-year-old man in front of a school in Serdang is allegedly connected to a spat among Gang 08 members and drug trafficking, said Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor (pic).

The Selangor police chief said initial investigations revealed that those involved - the assailants and the victim - were allegedly members of Gang 08.

"I do not deny that drug trafficking elements are involved in the shooting.

"We are looking into that angle," he told a press conference after attending the Selangor police general election drill and exercise on Sunday (March 4).

Asked whether the motive for the shooting is a drug turf war, Comm Mazlan said it was too early to say.

"I am only saying our investigations are headed towards drug trafficking," he said.

On whether the attack could been connected to unpaid debt, he said, "It could be that or something else.

"These sort of activities could involve all sorts of motives.

"We can only confirm the motive once arrests are made," Comm Mazlan added.

The Selangor top cop also reminded the public not to panic as the incident had occurred in front of a school.

"It is definitely an isolated incident as the attackers were going for a specific target.

"The attackers took advantage of the moment when the victim was waiting for his son to finish school," he said.

Comm Mazlan added that police are pooling all their resources to identify and arrest the culprits as soon as possible.

"We are very close in our investigations in nailing the suspects," he said.

On Thursday (March 1), G. Ganeshan was killed by a gunman on a motorcycle while waiting for his son to leave school in Sri Serdang.

A passer-by was also injured during the shooting but is in stable condition in Hospital Serdang.
