CYBERJAYA: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) collected a total of RM123.33bil in 2017, an 8.15% or RM9bil increase compared to the same period in 2016.
IRB CEO Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah (pic) said this was in line with the continuous growth of the economy.
"I would like to inform that at the end of last year, we successfully saw an 8.15% increase in tax collection by RM9bil, with a total of RM123.233bil tax collected compared with the same period in 2016," he said in his speech at IRB's 22nd anniversary celebrations at its headquarters here.
He also said that for 2018, the IRB is targeting RM134.713bil in tax collections, a 6.1% increase from the previous year.
Sabin also outlined several strategies to improve tax collection including competent leadership, better working culture, working processes and organisational structure.
