World #QuranHour to be held on 22nd day of Ramadan

KUALA LUMPUR: The World #QuranHour 2018, which is set to become the biggest campaign platform in unifying humankind under the banner of the Quran, will be held on June 7 or on the 22nd day of Ramadan.

This year’s campaign will be held at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque of the International Islamic University Malaysia in Gombak from 10am to noon.

It will be followed by simultaneous campaigns worldwide.

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation chairman Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub said the World #QuranHour campaign has gained a lot of traction on social media, where it reached 357 million views last year, compared to just 87 million hits in 2016.

For this year, the foundation hopes to get 400 million views on social media in 100 countries.

“This year, with the support of 10 media organisations as synergy partners, we hope this will be the biggest event in the country involving reading and recitals of the Quran.

“By understanding the content of the Quran for at least one hour a day, the holy book can be a source of guidance to mankind regardless of their faith, ideology or ethnic background,” he said at a press conference to launch the Malaysia #QuranHour at Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Bhd headquarters here yesterday.

The Star Media Group is among the 10 media organisations participating in the programme, which is now into its third year.

Besides World #QuranHour, Malaysia #QuranHour will also be held on June 7 this year, which falls on the 22nd day of Ramadan, considered by Muslims as a blessed day of the fasting month.

According to Hussamuddin, who is Karangkraf Media Group chairman, World #QuranHour is a campaign to encourage every individual to read, understand and apply the values from the Quran in their daily life.

“Another objective is to get everyone, be they leaders, media practitioners and the people, to come together under one banner of the Quran to make a paradigm shift in our daily life by doing good deeds for our fellow humankind,” he said.
