JOHOR BARU: Police seized RM1.2mil worth of drugs from a drug syndicate and arrested 14 suspects including seven foreigners.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said Bukit Aman’s Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group and the state Narcotics Crime Investigations Department raided four premises here after receiving intelligence from the Singapore Central Narcotics Bureau.

In the three-and-half-hour operation on Friday, police arrested six Singaporeans, a Thai and seven locals.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 65, were detained during the raids in Taman Johor Jaya, Mount Austin, Taman Desa Jaya and Stulang Laut.

Various drugs including 12.8kg of syabu, 200 Erimin 5 pills, and 0.95kg of ketamine; five cars; jewellery; and cash amounting to about RM30,000 were also seized.

It is understood that the syndicate had been trafficking drugs to Singapore and for local markets since early this year.

Comm Mohd Khalil told reporters yesterday that five suspects have previous records for drugs and criminal activity.

The 14 suspects, including two women, have been remanded until Friday to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
