Three charged with murder of JPJ officer

PONTIAN: Three unemployed men have been charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with murdering a Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer here early last year.

The accused, Mohammad Khalifah Yahya, 24; Abdul Shukur Abdul Ghani, 26; and S.Ragu, 38, nodded their heads after the charge was read out to them before magistrate Azlan Bohari, but no plea was recorded.

The court then ordered the case to be transferred to the Johor Baru High Court and fixed March 15 for mention of the victim's post-mortem report.

The trio were charged with murdering Jaiman Sapar, 53, at a house in Kampung Parit Pak Intan, Kayu Ara Pasong, Pontian, at abut 1pm on Jan 27, 2017.

The murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code provides for a death sentence if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Baiduri Mustakim prosecuted, while the three accused were unrepresented.

One of the accused, Mohammad Khalifah, whose is nicknamed "Mat Dugong", also faced three other charges for house breaking and theft.

He pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to all three charges. – Bernama
