Actor Farid Kamil out on bail

SHAH ALAM: Actor and director Datuk Farid Kamil has been released on bail following his arrest last week for slapping a police officer.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said that Farid, 37, was charged on Tuesday for two counts under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, one count under Section 353 of the Penal Code for criminal assault of a public servant and one count under Section 90 of the Police Act for disorderly conduct.

"He pleaded not guilty and a total bail of RM12,000 was set," he said when contacted on Tuesday.

The bail was paid by Farid's brother.

Farid was arrested on Jan 11 for allegedly slapping a police officer and kicking two members of the public at the Kota Damansara traffic police station.

Meanwhile, Comm Mazlan said Selangor police had met and surpassed their crime index target for 2017.

"We targeted a maximum of 31,788 cases per 100,000 people for 2017. However the number was 26,073 per 100,000. That's 22% fewer cases than targeted," he said.
