BUTTERWORTH: Police have sniffed out an online gambling den hidden behind a snooker centre, located in a hypermarket at the Teras Jaya Industrial Area in Mak Mandin here.
Nine men in the premises were arrested following the raid.
North Seberang Prai district police chief Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that when police stormed the premises at 1.20am yesterday, eight men aged between 26 and 50 were found gambling using electronic tablets connected to the Internet, while a 42-year-old caretaker was looking after the place.
“Following a tip-off, we raided the place under Ops Dadu.
“Besides arresting the men, police also seized 11 electronic tablets. One of the tablets was used for customers to top up credit,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 4B and Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and the men have been remanded until today.
