SIBU: It was a case of man versus snake when nature lover Lai Lee Siew managed to subdue a five-metre long python.

Speaking to The Star Friday (Dec 15), Lai said he took more than two hours to catch the reptile.

Lai has been a well-known snake catcher here over the past 30 years.

He received a call from a house owner in Jalan Lim Han Swee, saying that a python had made a meal out of his cat.

Arriving at the scene at 11am, Lai immediately sprang into action.

“I caught it as it was about to crawl out from the house. But it somehow escaped. I gave chase and grabbed its head. However, I lost hold of it again as it was too powerful,” he said.

This time, he said the snake hid inside a drainage pipe.

“I went down the drain and with the help of six youths using sticks, I managed to force it to come out. This time, there is no escape for the snake,” he said in jest.
