Grandma’s body ferried by boat to funeral

TUMPAT: The body of a 95-year-old woman had to be transported part of the way to her funeral by boat due to the floods.

Awang Ismail, 54, said his grandmother Bidah Isa died of natural causes in Kampung Bendang Pak Yong at about 5am yesterday.

For him, the hardest moment was when his family had to accompany Bidah’s body by boat for about 1km to the riverbank at Jalan Kasban.

The Civil Defence Force helped with the transportation.

Awang said the body was then taken by truck to the Pengkalan Kubor cemetery at about 2.30pm, adding that other cemeteries around Sungai Golok were flooded.
