BANGI: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has collected at least 7% more tax in the year to date compared with the same period in 2016.
"What we have collected to date has exceeded the amount collected in the same period last year. We are positive we will achieve our target (of RM127bil)," said IRB deputy chief executive officer (management) Datuk Mohd Nizom Sairi after launching Kem Cerdik Cukai 2017 here.
"The numbers change every day, but we have exceeded last year's number by more than 7%," he added.
Nizom, however, declined to disclose the exact value of the tax collected and the shortfall to its target.
It was reported that IRB collected RM114bil last year.
Earlier this year, IRB said it aimed to collect RM127bil in direct tax.
