MACC withdraws summons against Peter Anthony

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has withdrawn a summons for Datuk Peter Anthony to report to its headquarters in Putrajaya, his lawyer says.

Lawyer Martin Tommy said he had been informed that the summons for Parti Warisan Sabah vice-president Anthony to appear in Putrajaya to give a statement was cancelled until further notice.

Anthony had gone to the Sabah MACC headquarters here at 10am Tuesday and was issued a warrant to for him to be present at the commission's headquarters in Putrajaya at 8am on Wednesday (Nov 8).

"I do not know why it was withdrawn, they called me to inform me that the warrant to appear in Putrajaya had been cancelled until further notice," said Tommy.

"I am surprised that they were insistent that Anthony be present at the MACC headquarters (on Wednesday)," he added.

Tommy said the call came about 90 minutes after they left the Sabah MACC office.

Earlier, Anthony said he was only told to come and assist in investigations.

"I do not know what the case is it about," he told reporters at the state MACC office.

It is understood that the investigation centres on a 2015 case involving certain contracts carried out at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

Last month, Anthony was among 13 people including Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal who were arrested in connection with a high profile probe on alleged skimming of federal rural projects for Sabah worth RM1.5bil through a network of companies.
