The crane boom that collapsed killing the operator in Taman Desa

KUALA LUMPUR: A crane operator was crushed to death at a construction site at Taman Desa.

The victim was standing beside his crane with a generator dangling above when moments later, the crane's cables snapped and the boom and generator came crashing down on him.

The Fire and Rescue Department said seven firemen rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at about 5.24pm Thursday.

Based on eyewitness accounts, the victim was hoisting the generator using the crane when it started raining.

"The victim stopped his work with the generator still dangling from the crane and stood next to the machinery.

"Suddenly the crane's cable snapped and the generator and boom collapsed and crushed the victim," an eyewitness said.
