Political Cartoonist Zunar

GEORGE TOWN: Political cartoonist Zunar (pic) has called off his exhibition scheduled for Sunday at Beach Street here.

Zunar, who issued a statement on the matter on his Fan Club's Facebook page, claimed a poster had been distributed by a political party urging its members to go for the exhibition initially planned from 8am to noon.

“Based on last year’s experience, this is not a normal visit, but more of an act of physical intimidation,” he claimed in the post on Saturday.

The cartoonist said he had no choice but to call off the exhibition due to security reasons, considering the incident at his exhibition at Komtar in November last year.

That exhibition ended abruptly when a group of people stormed the event.

Zunar was then arrested by police under the Sedition Act and released about 24 hours later.
