ALOR SETAR: Datuk Syeikh Fadzil Awang has been appointed by the Sultan of Kedah as new state mufti.
His appointment as Kedah Mufti is from July 19.
Syeikh Fadzil, 68, who was born in Kampung Pida 7, Jalan Sanglang, Kodiang, Kedah, replaces Datuk Paduka Syeikh Muhamad Baderudin.
He was a former committee member of the state fatwa council as well as the state Islamic religious council and a former member of the state zakat board.
Syeikh Fadzil was the recipient of the Tokoh Dakwah Negeri Kedah award in 2005.
He served as Islamic Research Officer at the Islamic Centre of the Prime Minister's Department from 1981 to 1984 and was Islamic Education and Arabic language teacher of Maktab Mahmud Alor Setar from 1984 to 2005 before he was promoted to Senior Assistant of Maktab Mahmud Alor Setar from 2003 to 2005.
