PETALING JAYA: No Malaysian students were injured in the blast at the Manchester Arena.

The Higher Education Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that this was confirmed by Education Malaysia United Kingdom & Ireland (Emuke).

It said Emuke had sent out Facebook and WhatsApp messages to all student associations in Manchester and surrounding areas to check on Malaysian students.

There are 1,303 Malaysian students studying in the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Salford.

"Emuke will continue to periodically monitor and report any developments and advises students to be careful and inform Emuke of any updates," it said.

The suspected terrorist attack took place on Monday night outside the arena.

At least 19 people were killed while another 50 have been reported to be injured following a blast at US singer Ariana Grande's concert at the Manchester Arena.

Some 21,000 people were said to be at the concert when the blast happened. British police are treating the incident as a terrorist attack.

While Islamic State supporters have been celebrating the attack, no one has claimed responsibility yet.
