3J and Gerah ways to take fight against graft a notch higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Jangan! Just don’t do it.Jangan Hulur, Jangan Kawtim, Jangan Settle (Don’t Give and Don’t Settle).

This is the crucial message of two campaigns – the 3J and Gerah (Anti-Corruption Revolution Movement) – to be launched tomorrow by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as it takes its high profile fight against corruption one notch higher.

3J and Gerah are the latest initiatives by the MACC after the Corruption Free Pledge campaign nationwide which received strong support from ministries, state governments, non-governmental organisations and sports bodies.

These are among some of the new initiatives mooted under the leadership of chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad.

Just eight months at the helm, Dzulkifli has made an impact and put the anti-graft body in the limelight.

Despite himself keeping a low profile, he has kept to his words – promising that his officers will probe a case every week and that stern action will be taken against wrongdoers.

This has been happening since November.

His mission for the next three years is to clean up the civil service, enforcement agencies and government linked-companies.

Many high-profile personalities including those with positions of power and status in society have been taken in.

Some have since been charged while many others are still under investigation.

“People want us to arrest a Tan Sri, we got a Tan Sri. They want us to probe a Datuk Seri, we got one.

“My mission is to create a society which has the strength to reject the taking or giving of bribes.

“Today’s society hates corruption but they do not have the strength or willpower to go against it,” he told senior media personnel during a recent dialogue.

Dzulkifli is adamant about pressing ahead in the months to come, stressing that corruption has resulted in leakages and huge losses to the government coffers, as well as stunted the country’s growth.
