Resort worker charged with having IS-linked material


KOTA TINGGI: A resort worker has been charged with having 29 pictures and 240 videos related to the Islamic State (IS) on his mobile phone.

Mohd Firdaus Saibi, 24, was charged under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of not more than seven years or a fine.

He nodded his understanding when the charge was read to him before magistrate Mazana Sinin here yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, the accused had committed the offence of keeping the said videos and pictures related to the terror group at a resort in Kampung Sedili Kechil at around 4.20pm on March 21.

No plea was recorded.

Mazana fixed May 21 for mention pending the full report of the case, and advised the accused to hire a lawyer.

DPP Suhaila Shafi’uddin prosecuted and said the case would be transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
